Lighting is very important for the healthy growth of your orchids. In fact, light is important for all plants and life. Plants, as we may have learned during our school years, have the distinct talent of turning light into food. Proper lighting does not only support the growth of orchids and plants in general, but it can also boost their reproduction. For orchid fans, the amount of lighting and the way you provide proper lighting for your plants, will determine how much blooms they are to give out.

The general rule is orchids give their best when exposed to medium light. In areas that receive three to four hours of bright light every day. For flowering plants especially orchids, light is the most crucial factor. This is because production of the flowers takes a great toll in the energy consumption of plants. The right amount of energy from the light is necessary for the orchid to produce the stored energy needed in order for its blooms to appear.

Light is measured in foot-candles (fc). For a better understanding of light, sources indicate that on a clear sunny summer day, and at noon, the light of the sun is over 10,000fc. Meanwhile, on cold climes, such as an overcast winter, light level from the sun may only be 500fc or less. Overcast days in tropical countries may have varied (fc) results. It may be difficult to determine the range of light because the human eye controls the light which goes inside our eyes.

Too much heat from the sun can also cause damage or bad effects for orchid plant, so using LED Lamps to plant orchids is a good choice.
